About Kate

Hi, I'm Kate! I'm the designer behind Threads by Kate and the launch partner on Hookd.

I picked up a crochet hook for the first time a few years ago and immediately fell in love with the craft. But I also felt the frustration that so many beginners experience — confusing abbreviations, losing my place in patterns, and constantly switching between a PDF, a row counter app, and a YouTube tutorial.

I kept thinking: there has to be a better way.

So I built one. Hookd is the pattern experience I wished I had when I was starting out. Every pattern is designed to guide you stitch by stitch, with built-in tools like a stitch counter, tap-for-definitions on abbreviations, and automatic progress saving — so you can focus on creating, not decoding.

My Design Philosophy

  • Quality over quantity. Every pattern is personally designed and tested. I'd rather publish one pattern that's truly clear and error-free than ten that leave you guessing.
  • Designed for how you actually crochet. You're on the couch with yarn in your hands — not sitting at a desk. Every feature is built for that reality: mobile-first, readable at arm's length, one-tap interactions.
  • Beginners are welcome here. I believe crochet should be accessible to everyone. My patterns include detailed explanations, helpful tips, and a stitch glossary so you never feel lost.

What Makes This Different

Most crochet patterns are static PDFs. They work, but they weren't designed for how people actually craft today — on their phone, often while multitasking, picking up a project after days or weeks away.

Hookd turns every pattern into an interactive experience. Your progress is saved automatically. The stitch counter is built right in. Abbreviations are explained with a tap. And when you come back to a project after a week, you'll pick up exactly where you left off.

“Beautifully designed crochet patterns that guide you stitch by stitch — so you can focus on creating, not decoding.”
